The protagonist and narrator of the novel A Slight Loss of Loneliness is a Jewish boy who survives the extermination camp and the death march and returns to his native Prague at the end of his mental and physical strength. But it is May 1945, people are joyfully celebrating the end of the war, and the return of shadows from the past is not fitting in this time of optimism. The search for his lost family, friends and love takes the hero on an unexpectedly difficult journey where he must come to terms with his traumas, anxieties and distrust of the outside world. And he discovers that the war has left irreparable scars, and not just on him - the post-war world is irrevocably changing, and nothing he dreamed of in captivity will be easy or entirely to his liking... A suggestive and suspenseful narrative of a dark period in history, this novel of lost illusions is not just another Holocaust story, but treats a subsequent time and events about which little has been written. The book is also a historically faithful document, written according to reality.
