David Foster Wallace wrote his last collection of short stories, Oblivion, in parallel with his unfinished novel The Pale King. The book was published in 2004. The themes of personal identity and the possibilities of understanding and self-understanding in Wallace's texts are intertwined with more contemporary techniques of influence and external presentation, posing - the unspoken, perhaps the unspeakable? - question of what we have actually forgotten. 

David Foster Wallace (1962-2008) was one of the most original English-language writers of the turn of the millennium. He is best known for his 1996 novel The Infinite Jest. His first English translation was Short Conversations with Hideous Men, published by Rubato in 2018.
