In his famous novel, the author describes the unstoppable invasion of a hostile force that was initially insignificant, even ridiculous. At the same time, however, he draws attention to the fact that the democratic forces in effect supported it and thus participated in its destruction. With this criticism, he is primarily targeting political, industrial and business circles. He can no longer believe in an amicable ending - he is counting on the 'newts' to stand up to each other and exterminate each other.
Capek was able to express his message with inimitable wit, irony and attention to detail. As a result, The War with the Newts remains one of his most readable novels more than eighty years later, and rightly belongs to the literary legacy of the twentieth century.
