Úvahy na Tórou
Reflections on the Torah - commentaries on the biblical Five Books of Moses by one of the most important modern Israeli religious philosophers - Yeshayahu Leibowitz (1903-1994), translated by Leo Pavlat.
Leibowitz's conception of Judaism is based on an original interpretation of the thought of Moshe Maimonides as well as on the writings of the Orthodox scholars of the Chovevei Zion religious Zionist movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Leibowitz's distinctive, yet firmly anchored in tradition, understanding of Orthodox Judaism appealed to the general public above all by the radicalism with which Leibowitz criticized, on the one hand, the concession to modernity in abandoning orthopraxy, and, on the other hand, the inauthenticity of many Orthodox positions that took refuge in tradition.
Judaism's unconditional acceptance of the "yoke of God's commands" is also clear in Leibowitz's speeches on the weekly Torah portion, a translation of which is now available to the Czech reader in this volume.
The book was published with the kind support of Věra Tydlitátová, Ondrej Pelikan, Operation Esther and other donors.
