This autobiographical book gives a glimpse behind the scenes of the famous German writing family Mann. It depicts a typically Central European, intricate family story that is not lacking in bizarre, dramatic or humorous moments. Seventeen-year-old Leonie, Heinrich Mann's only daughter, flees with her Jewish mother to her native Prague in 1933. Two years after the war, she meets the novelist Ludvík Ashkenazy. In 1968, their son Jindřich finds himself in West Berlin, which is boiling with student revolt, and becomes a third-generation emigrant against his will. After 1989, he returns to Prague, where the circle of his wanderings imaginatively closes again. The book is a unique, translated and revised version of a text originally written in German at the instigation of the Rowohlt publishing house.
