The letters of the Florentine Platonist Marsilio Ficino, De officiis and Veritas de institutione principis, are among the most influential of Ficino's correspondence as concise treatises on themes of moral philosophy popular in the Renaissance. They received a unique reception in the Czech milieu of the early sixteenth century, when they were translated into humanist Czech, the Veritas even twice. This publication presents a critical edition of both letters, their new translation into Czech, as well as a transcription of both Old Czech translations by Gregory of Hrubý of Jelení and Oldřich Velenský of Munich. The book is prefaced by a study that discusses Ficino's correspondence and its philosophical significance in general, analyses both letters and examines their impact in the Renaissance and early modern period. It also examines the context of Czech humanist translations, which shows that the Platonist Marsilio Ficino was perceived and received in the Czech environment in the first decades of the sixteenth century primarily as a moral philosopher.
