Macbeth

One of William Shakespeare's supreme tragedies is a drama of crime, conscience and punishment and a theatrical probe into the depths of the human soul from which evil is born. In this play, Macbeth, a Scottish nobleman and hero, a man admired and revered by all, succumbs to ambition and the lust for power to the point of committing the ultimate crime - bloody regicide. This, Shakespeare's shortest and most searing tragedy, has a thrilling rhythm and action, psychological depth, a play of punch and poetry, a drama of steep rise and fall. Macbeth wins supreme power through murder, becomes king, but to keep his power he must keep on murdering, wading through blood, becoming an inhuman beast, a monster, screaming on the stage of the world every now and then, only to discover that his life is the desolate prattle of an idiot, all noise and tumult - and signifying nothing.
