The thematisation of the conflict between the main characters' desire for "vagabond" independence and the fatal consequences to which their kinship of choice leads them, as well as the distinctive language, foreshadows the plot and style of Ryšavý's great novels - Journeys to Siberia (2008) and The Killer (2010), which won awards in the Magnesia Litera competition. The starting point for the distinctive prose form of Forest Walkers was the author's film script, which became the basis for the film of the same name directed by Ivan Vojnar.
