A neat little book bound in grey cloth with a cover without a picture might look a little too sedentary. Within its burgundy-edged pages, however, the morbid humour of German poet Christian Morgenstern and Markéta Prachatická's exuberant pen drawings bring to life a knee that is walking through the world on its own, as the rest of its owner's body was shot back and forth in the war. Stretching it out to thirty pages does no harm at all to the minimalist twelve-volume work, the third third of which, moreover, almost copies the first. On the contrary. Even between the playful micro-stories of the individual illustrations, the absurdity of war conflicts, which leave behind not only the torsos of bodies, but also the torsos of personalities and entire societies, manages to surface thanks to the ample space.
