This shorter novel by the German writer Arno Schmidt (1914-1979) depicts in the style of a "photo album" the erotic experience of the narrator during a short holiday at Lake Dümmer in Lower Saxony. The prose poem Lakescape with Pocahontas is complemented by three shorter stories from 1957-1959, School Trip, The Drummer at the Czar's and The Second Moon and the Pink Eyes, which are typical examples of Schmidt's imaginative ability to accurately observe and describe reality in a language full of unexpected and poetic associations.
