Dědeček
The history of the last century through the lens of one family watching from the balcony of their cottage in the heart of Bohemia the German and Soviet tanks and the first man on the moon from their temporary emigration in West Germany. The narrative and collage illustrations thus intersect individual and local fates with events of national significance, supplemented by half-page explanations of the period and footnotes that give space not only to historical facts but also to family peculiarities. The author-historian draws on ancestral accounts, his own memories and family documents.
In addition to the expert's perspective, he also offers the amazement of a small boy who, reading the slogan "Proletarians of all countries, unite!", does not understand why and with whom the shutter makers on his street should unite.
