(1966) is based on the Oulipian tradition of "potential literature" and at first glance is characterised by its playfulness, linguistic comedy and formal refinement. What holds the reader's attention is not so much the story, recounting the vicissitudes of a soldier with a memorable name whose most dramatic moments are diluted by the author's repetition of meaningless details, as the style itself. Indeed, the text contains almost every conceivable figure of speech, reflecting Perec's attempt to exhaust certain combinatory possibilities within the work.
